Founder & Pastor

Pastor Edgar J. Butler, Sr.
A life of steadfast service.

Pastor Edgar J. Butler, Sr. is a steadfast and compassionate servant leader whose life reflects strength, humility, and unwavering devotion to the people of God. A man of prayer, purpose, and principles. He has dedicated his ministry to nurturing souls, mentoring leaders, and advancing the Kingdom with spiritual power and practical wisdom.

A Foundation in the Apostolic Faith

Pastor Butler was baptized in the name of Jesus on April 19, 1991, and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on January 24, 1993, under the anointed leadership of the late Pastor Annie Mae Woods at Emmanuel Assembly Church of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (P.A.W.). As the first in his family to receive the Holy Ghost, he boldly embraced the Apostolic faith.

He believes in water baptism in Jesus’ Name, the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and remains fully committed to the Apostolic doctrine.

“One Lord, one faith, one baptism; One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” — Ephesians 4:5–6

Called to Ministry and Prepared to Serve

Called to ministry in October 1994 while attending Emmanuel Assembly Church, Pastor Butler served under the late Pastor Annie Mae Woods and District Elder Darryll Jackson. During his tenure, he served in numerous leadership roles, including Sunday School Superintendent, Usher Board President, Church Secretary, Church Trustee, and Church Treasurer. He also served faithfully through the Brotherhood Choir, Children’s Ministry, Outreach Ministry, and other church auxiliaries.

Pastor Butler was licensed as a minister under the World Assemblies of Restoration (WAR), under Presiding Bishop James D. Nelson, Sr. He was later licensed as an Elder in the P.A.W. and ultimately ordained under Apostolic Faith Fellowship International (AFFI) by Presiding Bishop Charles E. Johnson, Sr.

Biblical and Professional Preparation

Obeying the direction of the Lord, he transitioned to Greater Morning Star Apostolic Ministries (GMSAM) under Bishop Charles E. Johnson, Sr., where he completed the Evangelical Training Association course through the GMSAM Bible Institute. In 2009, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Word of Faith Christian College and Graduate School under the guidance of Dr. Larry Fraizer.

His strong biblical foundation, coupled with a professional background in accounting, enables him to serve with clarity, integrity, and administrative excellence. For more than twenty years at GMSAM, Elder Butler grew profoundly in faith, love for God’s Word, and passion for evangelism.

The Birth of Greater Emmanuel

On September 24, 2024, the Lord released Elder Butler from GMSAM. On October 25, 2024, Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Ministries (GEAM) was birthed by the leading of the Holy Ghost. Today, Pastor Edgar J. Butler, Sr. serves as the founder and pastor of GEAM, laboring to transform lives through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

Mission, Marriage, and Legacy

Pastor Butler’s mission is clear: to preach, teach, equip, empower, and mature believers for the work of the ministry, leading souls into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

He is joyfully united in marriage to Evangelist Penny Butler, his partner in life and ministry for more than thirty years. Together, they are blessed with two sons, Edgar Jr. and Joseph, who carry forward the spiritual legacy of their home.

Evangelist & First Lady

Evangelist Penny Butler
Serving with faith and purpose.

Evangelist Penny Butler is a humble yet powerful servant of God whose mission is to edify, uplift, and guide souls into their God-given purpose. Spirit-led, compassionate, and purpose-driven, she carries a unique blend of spiritual depth, creative insight, and practical wisdom that strengthens believers and builds the Kingdom with excellence.

Her Spiritual Foundation

Her spiritual foundation was formed through years of faithful service at Emmanuel Assembly Church of the P.A.W., Inc., under the leadership of the late Pastor Annie Mae Woods and later District Elder Darryll Jackson. It was there that she was baptized in Jesus’ Name, filled with the Holy Ghost, and called into the ministry. This season served as a spiritual training ground where she developed discipline in sound doctrine, worship, and servant leadership.

A Heart for Nurturing and Equipping

During her time at Emmanuel Assembly, she served in numerous leadership and auxiliary capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board Member, President of the Junior Missionaries, Praise and Worship Leader, and Youth Group Leader. She also established foundational ministries such as the Nursing and Photography Ministries and helped secure technological resources to equip youth with essential digital skills.

These experiences shaped her heart for nurturing, teaching, and equipping God’s people.

Leadership, Outreach, and Preparation

Her time at Greater Morning Star sharpened her administrative excellence, strengthened her ability to build systems, and deepened her passion for empowering families, youth, and leaders. She also served faithfully through the Prayer Line Ministry and community outreach efforts, ministering to residents of rehabilitation centers, veterans’ programs, and senior communities.

Evangelist Butler brings training in Biblical Studies, Digital Media, Technology, Program Management, and Data Analytics, equipping her to bridge spiritual and practical needs with wisdom and excellence.

Stepping Forward in 2024

In 2024, after a season of prayer and divine preparation, Evangelist Butler and her husband, Pastor Edgar J. Butler, Sr., stepped forward in obedience to God’s call and launched a new work. This ministry stands on the foundation of years of faithful service, spiritual training, and hands-on leadership cultivated through both Emmanuel Assembly and Greater Morning Star.

Ministry, Family, and Legacy

Today, she honors those foundations while embracing the fresh mandate God has entrusted to her and her husband to build a Christ-centered, Spirit-led ministry that uplifts families, strengthens believers, and impacts communities through love, truth, and sound biblical teaching.

She has been married for more than thirty years to Pastor Edgar J. Butler, Sr. Together, they serve as a unified and visionary ministry team. They are blessed with two sons, Edgar Jr. and Joseph, and give God all glory for His faithfulness.

Ministry theme

Greater works.

“The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do.”

John 14:12 KJV

What we believe

Faith with
foundation.

Our faith is rooted in Scripture, centered on Jesus Christ, and lived through transformed hearts, holy lives, and Spirit filled service.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off.

Acts 2:39 KJV
01What We Believe About Salvation

Salvation is God’s gracious work of redemption through Jesus Christ. We respond to the Gospel through faith, repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. A life of holiness is the outward expression of an inward transformation.

Titus 2:11–12 · Acts 2:38 · Hebrews 12:14

02What Is Repentance?

Repentance is a heartfelt turning away from sin and a sincere turning toward God. It is more than regret. It is a change of heart, mind, and direction that opens the way for forgiveness, restoration, and new life in Christ.

Acts 2:38 · Acts 17:30 · Luke 24:47

03What Is Baptism?

Baptism by immersion expresses a believer’s repentance and commitment to Christ. Following the apostolic pattern, we baptize in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Acts 2:38 · Acts 8:16 · Acts 19:5

04What Is the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is God’s Spirit dwelling within the believer. Jesus promised this gift, and the book of Acts records believers receiving the Holy Ghost with power to live, witness, worship, and serve.

John 3:5 · Acts 2:4 · Acts 10:46 · Acts 19:6
